Over the long National Day holiday weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at The Village Chateau Distillery, a place that holds a special connection for me. My friend Phoebe, the visionary owner, is spearheading a new liquor brand here in her hometown, designed to bring high-quality spirits to the market.
This initiative comes at a time when Vietnamese young people are driving new trends in drinking, embracing a more sophisticated palate that demands authenticity and craftsmanship.
Our conversations also touched on the broader discussion of Brand Vietnam, as Vietnamese brands are gaining traction and becoming trendier on the global stage. There’s a palpable sense of pride in seeing these homegrown products, like Phoebe’s Rượu, capture international attention.
A Retreat To Remember
The Chateau itself is a testament to thoughtful design and comfort. With just five well-appointed rooms, it offers an intimate setting that’s perfect for a team retreat or a large family getaway.
The common rooms are spacious, inviting guests to relax, unwind, and enjoy each other’s company. The pool, a centerpiece of the Chateau, provided the perfect spot for a refreshing dip after a day of exploring the distillery and its surroundings.
While the amenities are nearly perfect, we did note one small opportunity for improvement—a pickleball court would make this retreat space complete! I’ve already asked the owner to include that for future consideration.
The Art Of Rượu: Tradition Meets Modern Craftsmanship
During our stay, we immersed ourselves in the world of Rượu, a traditional Vietnamese liquor crafted with utmost care and precision at the Village Chateau Distillery.
The distillery’s commitment to preserving the art of Rượu-making is evident in every step of their process, from selecting the finest organic terraced rice from Bac Kan’s northwest mountains to the meticulous distillation and aging techniques employed.
The distillery produces a variety of Rượu, each with its own unique character.
The Rượu Làng Classic is a tribute to the rich tradition of Vietnamese rice liquor, boasting a sweet yet masculine flavor profile, while the Rượu Làng Red Dragon Fruit & Rice Flavor offers a tropical fusion that’s as visually stunning as it is delicious.
For those who prefer something a bit softer, the Rượu Làng Easy to Drink, inspired by sake, provides a delicate and slightly sweeter option.
A Legacy Of Quality And Purity
The Village Chateau Distillery stands out not only for the quality of its Rượu but also for its commitment to purity and excellence.
The distillation process is performed using a six-plate distiller, ensuring exceptional purity and quality in every drop. The water used in the process is purified to meet the highest standards, and the fermentation is carefully controlled to preserve the natural flavor of the rice.
The Rượu is then aged to perfection, allowing it to develop a softer, smoother texture that’s truly a delight to the senses. Each bottle is a reflection of the craftsmanship and passion that goes into making this traditional Vietnamese liquor.
A Place Steeped In Culture And Heritage
Staying at the Village Chateau Distillery is more than just a retreat—it’s an opportunity to connect with the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam. The distillery honors the traditions passed down through generations, blending them with modern techniques to create something truly special.
The Chateau itself is a beautiful fusion of Vietnamese tradition and French elegance, making it a unique destination for anyone looking to experience the best of both worlds.
My stay at The Village Chateau Distillery was an unforgettable experience, combining the tranquility of the Vietnamese countryside with the richness of its cultural heritage.
Whether you’re looking for a quiet retreat or an immersive cultural experience, the Village Chateau offers both in abundance. And who knows? Maybe by the time of your visit, there will be a pickleball court ready for some friendly competition!
